There are three common types of garage doors:
Up-and-Over Garage Doors: These doors lift upward as a single piece. They are simple but require clearance space in front of the garage to open.
Sectional Garage Doors: Composed of horizontal panels, these doors move vertically on tracks and curve into the garage ceiling. They are currently the most popular style due to their space-saving design and versatility.
Roller Garage Doors: Made of steel or aluminum slats, these doors roll up into a compact box above the opening, making them extremely space-efficient.
For new construction or custom homes, slightly taller garage doors (8 feet high) are becoming more common. Common single garage door dimensions are: 8 feet wide and 7 feet high (8×7); double garage door dimensions are: 16 feet wide and 7 feet high. Grandsea also offers custom sizes, depending on the size of your vehicle, available space and storage needs.
For most homeowners, steel garage doors or aluminum doors strike a good balance between durability, low maintenance, and cost-effectiveness. However, if you prioritize a classic look and don’t mind more maintenance, wood is a better choice. For coastal areas, an aluminum garage door is ideal because it is corrosion-resistant.
The cost of installing a garage door typically averages between $550 and $1,800, and actual costs may vary depending on your specific requirements, location, and selected features.
